Агар ба масири рушди илмҳои табиатшиносӣ ва дақиқ назар намоем то асри XVII илмҳои физика, химия, геология ва монанди инҳо ба доираи таҳқиқоти як маҷмӯи комплексии донишҳо – фалсафаи натуралӣ дохил мешуданд. Аз ин лиҳоз масалан, агар ба ҳолномаи олимони барҷастаи қарнҳои гузашта назар намоем, то асрҳои XVI-XVII дар шарҳи самти илмии онҳо калимаи “физикдон” ба назар намерасад, гарчанде ниёгони мо дар ин соҳаи донишҳои бунёдӣ доштанд. Сабаб дар он аст, ки илми физика то асрҳои XVI-XVII дар доираи фаъолияти фалсафа рушд мекард ва қонуниятҳои табиат бештар аз нуқтаи назари илми фалсафа маънидод карда мешуданд.
